"When I illustrate a gig poster I typically don't use subject matter from the band's lyrics or base it on the location that they're playing the show. I like to try to represent the overall feel and tone of the band and their music in the illustration. For the Avett Brothers, a lot of their music has a folk and Appalachian sound which just made me think of a cabin in the woods in North Carolina, which is where they grew up. I wanted their fans to be able to imagine themselves in that room with the fireplace crackling, drinking a cup of coffee in the morning and playing an Avett record." -Nicholas Moegly
